Contents
Per IR pellet Pseudoephedrine HCl 60 mg, loratadine 5 mg. Per SR pellet Pseudoephedrine HCl 60 mg
Indications/Uses
Relief of nasal & ocular symptoms of upper resp mucosal congestion eg, in allergic rhinitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to loratadine or pseudoephedrine, or idiosyncrasy to their components including metabolite descarboethoxy-loratadine, to adrenergic agents or to other drugs of similar chemical structure. Concomitant use w/ MAOI or w/in 14 days of discontinuing such treatment. Patients w/ narrow angle glaucoma, urinary retention, HTN, severe CAD & hyperthyroidism.
Special Precautions
Limit use to 3 mth. Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation. Pseudoephedrine: Patients w/ stenosing peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, prostatic hypertrophy or bladder neck obstruction, CV disease, increased IOP or DM; patients receiving digitalis. Risk of CNS stimulation, excitability, convulsions &/or CV collapse w/ accompanying hypotension; acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis. Potential for abuse & tolerance. Risk of depression following rapid w/drawal. Elderly ≥60 yr. Loratadine: Patients w/ severe liver impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, insomnia, nervousness, sedation; CNS stimulation, muscular weakness, chest tightness, syncope.
Drug Interactions
Pseudoephedrine: Hypertensive reactions (including hypertensive crises) w/ MAOIs. Reduced antihypertensive effects of methyldopa, mecamylamine, reserpine, veratrum alkaloids. Potential interaction w/ β-adrenergic blockers. Increased absorption rate w/ antacids. Decreased absorption rate w/ kaolin. Increased ectopic pacemaker activity w/ digitalis. Do not take concomitantly w/ furazolidone. Combined CV effects w/ other sympathomimetic amines. Loratadine: Increased plasma conc w/ ketoconazole, erythromycin, cimetidine. Caution w/ concomitant use of other drugs known to inhibit hepatic metabolism. Discontinue approx 48 hr prior to skin testing procedures.
